Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan on Amazon.com Smartphone Coming Second Half of Year(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 11, 2014 Amazon.com announced today they will start selling their own smartphone during the second half of this year, says USA Today, Apr. 11. Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment. "Congratulations to Amazon.com for thinking outside the box. If this is a hit it could be great news for both Amazon.com and their customers. It could be another Kindle like business. However it takes much more than just making an announcement, even by a winner like Amazon.com to be successful in wireless," says Wireless analyst Jeff Kagan. "Some companies like Apple, Google and Samsung are very successful in the smartphone space. However many more companies are trying with very little success. The next biggest player is Microsoft Nokia and they only have a few percent market share," says Tech analyst Kagan. "Remember just a year or two ago when Facebook launched their smartphone. It failed. Also remember a few short years ago when the cable television industry thought they could enter and succeed in the wireless business? They failed as well. So they sold their spectrum to Verizon Wireless. So wireless has a history of rewarding only some companies," says Principal analyst Kagan. "Will Amazon.com be a big winner on the wireless front, or will they fail like Facebook, Comcast, Time Warner Telecom, Cox and many other handset makers as well. I hope Amazon.com does well.
