Firms boost spending on cybersecurity, forensics [Bangkok Post, Thailand :: ]

(Bangkok Post (Thailand) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 14--Cybersecurity analytics and computer forensics are the two hot IT security technologies in 2014, driven by a combination of growing data volume and increasing system complexity, says a local computer security distributor.

Nakrop Niamnamtham, managing director of nForce Secure, formerly nForce Security Systems AP, said data centre operators are increasing expenditure on data security analytics and forensic appliances to help them quickly identify root causes to fix vulnerabilities in an incident.

The technologies can also detect and prevent advanced persistent threats and effectively mitigate malicious attacks to better deal with the increasing sophistication of cyberthreats and cyberattackers.

Demand for mobile application security remains strong as companies need to manage their security and protect central computer systems from security risks. The app is specially tailored to deal with the increasing tendency among employees to bring their own devices to work and connect them to the corporate network.

Mr Nakrop said demand for cloud-based security is also rising as it can help companies to deal with cybercriminals and protecting customers' identities and data.

He added that the payment card industry data security standard (PCI DSS) ? a widely accepted set of policies and procedures intended to optimise the security of credit, debit and cash card transactions and protect cardholders against misuse of their personal information ? is also driving demand for security system to minimise risks associated with uncontrolled access to systems that contain cardholders' data.

Mr Nakrop said the country's political impasse has delayed spending on major IT projects by both the government and private sector. But educational institutions, commercial banks and internet service providers have continued to invest in security systems.

To boost the market, nForce is providing a range of IT security equipment rental and leasing services for the first time to its dealers and customers in order to help them reduce upfront capital investment for the equipment.

Mr Nakrop said nForce plans to open its first branch office in Khon Kaen this year with the advent of the Asean Economic Community. It expects to maintain revenue growth of 15-20% this year.

The company also aims to retain its 15% market share in Thailand where the overall enterprise IT security market is expected to be worth up to 1.5 billion baht this year.
