The studies that prompted the FDA to issue its safety communication included research that was published last November in the Journal of the American Medical System which reported an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death among older men with pre-existing heart problems.* A second study, which was published in PLOS One in January, reported that such treatments ware associated with a doubling of the heart attack risk among younger men with pre-existing heart problems, and in men over 65 regardless of their heart health.** Court documents indicate that at least 30 AndroGel lawsuits are currently pending in federal courts throughout the U.S. that claim that low testosterone therapy also caused men to suffer serious cardiovascular problems. On March 28th, plaintiffs in these lawsuits asked the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to transfer all of these cases to the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois for coordinated pretrial proceedings.
