Sayre elected chairman of SOPA board [The Portsmouth Daily Times, Ohio :: ](Portsmouth Daily Times, The (OH) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 15--The Southern Ohio Port Authority (SOPA) held its annual organizational meeting on Tuesday, during which Bud Sayre was elected chairman. Outgoing Chairman Todd Book said he was thankful for the experience over the last year. "I would like to thank the commissioners for the confidence they've placed in me and really all of us in trying to make some things happen," Book said. "I was thinking last night some of the things we've accomplished over the year. We've done a lot and laid a lot of ground work over this last year (for potential businesses)." Book said SOPA has saved the county hundreds of thousands of dollars by helping them refinance some bonds. "We've made a difference by just doing that. We've also assisted other groups (Clark Foundation) in the area save money.We helped them by refinancing their bonds and that will allow them to do more things in the community," Book said. "We've also created a structure to the organization with the rules and regulations (of the SOPA Board). We're in a position to move forward for the future." Book said the board made advancements in the last year with the hiring of SOPA Executive Director Jason Kester. Also at the meeting the board elected Tom Kayser as Vice-Chairman, Dan Cassidy as Secretary/Treasurer, and Loretta McClure as Vice-Secretary/Treasurer. After being elected Sayre spoke exclusively with the Daily Times. "I'm quite honored the group would have the confidence in me to put me in this position. I have big shoes to fill, Todd (Book) did a tremendous job this past year in building a good foundation," Sayre said. "We (SOPA Board) have a lot of work to do and the commissioners have established an outstanding board with quality people. I'm looking forward to working with all of them."
