American Sentinel University's Online DNP Program Achieves ACEN Accreditation

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aurora, CO (PRWEB) April 16, 2014 American Sentinel University today announced that the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN, formerly NLNAC) has granted accreditation to the university's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) online degree program with specialty tracks in executive leadership and educational leadership, following a site review completed in November 2013.

"As the role of the nurse continues to become more complex, the health care industry calls for nurses to advance their education," says Judy Burckhardt, Ph.D., MAEd, MSN, RN, dean, nursing programs at American Sentinel University. "The ACEN accreditation provides our nursing students with assurance that the DNP program at American Sentinel is a high-quality program that provides them with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in today's health care environment." American Sentinel is one of just a few online universities with an ACEN-accredited DNP program with specialty tracks in executive leadership and educational leadership that prepare nurses for leadership roles in administration and academic settings.

   •  The DNP Program Executive Leadership specialty track prepares master's-educated nurses for leadership roles in health care systems and develops five key competencies: leadership, business intelligence, finance, health policy and health services.

   •  The DNP Program Educational Leadership specialty track is leadership-focused and prepares nursing faculty, program directors and deans to lead nursing education programs. "Our DNP nursing program has educated exceptional nursing leaders with the skills needed to be successful in today's complex health care and educational settings. We are excited to receive ACEN accreditation for our DNP program and look forward to providing the nursing community with affordable, quality education programs that continue to support the health care industry," says Dr. Burckhardt.

The next cohort for the DNP program with specialty tracks in executive leadership and educational leadership starts June 16, 2014 and registration has been extended through May 19.
