The commendation certificates were distributed among Mr. Tahir Ayub Khan (Deputy Director), Mr. Amir Nazir (Deputy Director), Mr. Faisal Iqbal Khan (Deputy Director), Mr. Akram Mughal (Deputy Director) and Mr. Hassan Iftikhar, Forensic Expert.

The FIA Task Force to curb illegal VoIP traffickers was formulated at National Response Center for Cyber Crimes (NR3C), Federal Investigation Agency HQs, to curtail the menace of Grey traffic through Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology since February, 2013.

The task force has unearthed Sixty-three (63) illegal VoIP Grey traffic setups in different cities of Pakistan from February 2013 to March 2014. The recorded Cases/FIR’s and Enquires against the successful raids on VoIP Grey traffickers have accumulated to 57 (Cases/FIR’s) and 6 (Enquires) respectively. In continuation to these activities 96 perpetrators alleged for the installation and use of VoIP setups have been apprehended so far.

Illegal VoIP installed setups/infrastructures, which include different devices, were seized at all the locations, and approximate cost of the seized items in these cases sum up to Rs. 4, 852 million. Subsequently, due to untiring efforts of the team members actively involved in these cases, approximately Rs.1, 925 million per month loss has been averted to Government Exchequer.

It is pertinent to mention that during years 2009 to 2012, the progress to control illegal VoIP activity reaped only 49 raids on the alleged grey traffickers.

These numbers of cases and raids have drastically increased after the formulation of the FIA Task Force by the order of Director General FIA and speak volumes of the hard work put in by the FIA officials.
