Apple, Google ape console sector with exclusive titles gambit [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]

(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Apple and Google are aggressively lobbying games developers for exclusive launches of titles on their platforms, The Wall Street Journal reported.

In return for delivering an app for first release on either Google Play or the App Store, developers are treated to prime placement on a store's home page or features list.

Console manufacturers Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft, regularly strike deals with game developers for exclusive launches in an effort to capture consumers who may be drawn to particular titles, rather than the features of a specific hardware model. In many cases the title will be released for other consoles at a later date.

But this marks the first time this strategy has been seen in the mobile apps sector.  Apple agreed with Electronic Arts Inc (EA) last August to heavily push PopCap's Plants Vs Zombies 2 in the App Store, and did the same in December with ZeptoLab's Cut the Rope sequel.
