ELERTS Lock It Down™ and ELERTS Campus™ Apps Drive School Safety Program at Dennis-Yarmouth

WEYMOUTH, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

ELERTS Corporation (http://www.elerts.com), a leader in emergency response communication, joins the Yarmouth Police Department and Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District in launching a comprehensive program that uses mobile technology to improve school security.

ELERTS Lock It Down is a communication platform that lets school personnel use their smartphones to report threatening or suspicious activities directly to local police. Designated staff can also initiate the Lockdown of a facility with the touch of a button. When a volatile situation is underway, police can broadcast real-time advisories to the prescribed audience. GPS maps and photos are shared using mobile phones and provide important visual context to inform Shelter in Place or Evacuation decisions.

In active shooter situations, Lock It Down is particularly relevant as incidents are often over in 5 - 8 minutes. Until now, students and teachers were usually isolated during lockdowns without means of two-way communication.

ELERTS Campus app is designed for broader, non-emergency use, empowering students, teachers, and esidents to report safety and security concerns, in keeping with the national "See Something, Say Something" campaign. Reports are sent from a smartphone to the appropriate authority, usually a police department or administration office. Report types may include Crime, Hazard, Motor Vehicle, Maintenance, and Disturbance which addresses the growing concern about Bullying.

These apps are available for iPhone, iPad, and Android (News - Alert) smartphones. ELERTS solutions can be integrated with Video Surveillance and Access Control systems.

In an official press release, Yarmouth Chief of Police Frank G. Frederickson said, "ELERTS is Social Policing meets Neighborhood Crime Watch meets Lockdown, all wrapped up in one. ELERTS Campus provides an opportunity to engage our parents and neighbors and most importantly, our student population, in a next-level crime prevention and school safety initiative."

Ed English, ELERTS CEO, notes that this kind of human intelligence distinguishes ELERTS. "We're not just about the technology. For us, people are key. The ELERTS team gathers insight from First Responders, trains with safety instructors, confers with legislators, and innovates for those with 'eyes on the ground.' School safety is a shared responsibility, and we're delighted that Dennis-Yarmouth is leading the K-12 charge."

Dennis-Yarmouth School District

The Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District was designated in 2013 by U.S. News & World Report as a "Best High School in the United States." The initial deployment of the ELERTS program at Dennis-Yarmouth was sponsored by a grant from the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office.
