The DANIELS and Interlude Team Up for Two Groundbreaking Interactive Films to Screen at a Special Event During the Tribeca Film Festival

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

Interlude and PRETTYBIRD announced today that "POSSIBILIA" and "THE GLEAM," two interactive films both created by acclaimed directing duo DANIELS, will screen at a special event at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival on April 25, 2014. DANIELS, comprising Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, are best known for their groundbreaking visual effects-driven commercial and music video work, along with their short film "Dogboarding" and their latest viral music video sensation, DJ Snake's "Turn Down for What."

"POSSIBILIA," written and directed by Kwan and Scheinert, stars Alex Karpovsky and Zoe Jarman as young lovers Rick and Polly in a non-linear, interactive "non-break-up break-up story," in which viewers are implicated in not just the story, but Rick and Polly's relationship, as they find themselves able to steer the action and decide how and where the breakup plays out. The viewer's emotional connection to the experience impacts the choices they make and how they view the film with a nearly infinite number of unique combinations possible.

"In life we're bombarded with choices sometimes to negative effect, so in 'POSSIBILIA' we tried to make a film that illustrates that both literally and thematically," said DANIELS when asked about their inspiration.

"THE GLEAM" (created by Scheinert and writer/director Billy Chew) is an interactive documentary film exploring the town of Guntersville, Ala., through the local newspaper that connects the small, tight-knit community.

"It is exciting to see the DANIELS put a new tech-infused spin on rich narrative storytelling," said Yoni Bloch, co-founder and CEO of Interlude. "Our seamless non-linear platform gives filmmakers new and exciting ways to tell their stories and challenges and enages audiences on a deeper level. We are especially excited to see how it plays out in front of a live audience at a venue as forward-thinking and progressive as the Tribeca Film Festival."

The two interactive films were built on the Interlude self-serve authoring suite, Treehouse. With Treehouse's simple and intuitive interface, DANIELS were able to create a multi-layered, interactive experience where viewers get to play an active role in the storytelling process. In both films, viewers can navigate through various options at key points that determine how the ensuing scenes play out in real time, delivering a seamless and truly unique viewing experience.

"Every day we're taking seemingly random events in our lives and finding the narrative within it," DANIELS added. "We wanted to explore how we could make films in which the viewer searches for the narrative instead of being fed it. Interactivity is simply an opportunity to explore themes we find very compelling. We didn't set out to create anything groundbreaking - we just want these films to be good stories like any other film."

Both of these films can be seen at a special event during the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. in the SVA Theater 2 Beatrice. Following each screening the directors and cast will discuss the films, the creative process and their thoughts on interactivity as a new form of filmmaking. Attendees will be able to experience the films firsthand during the second part of the discussion and at the close of the event.
