Nucleus Research ERP Value Matrix Shows Increased Competition from Cloud Vendors, Microvertical Solutions

BOSTON --(Business Wire)--

In its first half 2014 Technology Value Matrix for enterprise resource planning (ERP), Nucleus Research finds intense competition is leading vendors to provide granular vertical industry features, down to the micro-vertical level.

There is nothing "magic" about the Nucleus Value Matrix, which categorizes vendors according to usability and functionality. This determines which solutions provide the most value to organizations. ERP is not a one-size-fits-all application, and understanding usability and functionality can enable firms to select the best solution for their specific business needs.

"Customers want predictable time to value and lower ongoing costs, making cloud solutions and those with limited customization requirements much mre attractive," said Rebecca Wettemann, vice president, research at Nucleus Research. "Deep industry functionality and usability investments are driving competitive advantage in the market."

In addition to deep vertical industry capabilities, vendors continue to embed analytics and provide cloud options as ERP becomes the core application of record for many organizations.

At the forefront of the current Value Matrix, Epicor, Infor, and Oracle (News - Alert) are maintaining their leading trajectories through acquisition and organic investments. Other vendors in the leader quadrant include Deltek, FinancialForce, IQMS, Microsoft, NetSuite (News - Alert), SYSPRO and Unit4. Qualiac and Acumatica continue to advance in usability while SAP has advanced in both usability and functionality in the Experts' quadrant.
