U.S. issues advisory against using Internet Explorer browser

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Monday advised against using Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer because of a security flaw that may be exploited by potential hacker attacks.

Microsoft said Saturday it is aware of "limited, targeted attacks" on vulnerability in the browser's versions 6 to 11. An attacker could delete data or lead computer users to a specially crafted website, it said.

The company is encouraging customers to enable a firewall, apply all software updates and install antimalware software. It has not yet provided a security software update to fix the flaw.

U.S. data security company FireEye said a group of hackers have been exploiting the bug, seemingly targeting U.S-based companies tied to defense and financial sectors, Reuters news agency said.
