Using Structured Data Gets Easier for Medical Websites(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 Clear Health Media today launched its Structured Data tool to assist content creators in utilising Schema.org mark-up on medical related articles. Structured Data is a way for the search engines to understand more clearly the text on web pages. To date there have been many tools launched to assist in the implementation of local business, movie, events and recipe mark up, but the medical mark-up tool is believed to be a first. When looking at why a site should use this mark-up, consider how does Google know what the content on a web pages means? Unlike humans, the computers behind the search engines can find it difficult to know exactly what content means. For example if a webpage mentions the word Avatar. Does that mean the movie Avatar or is it referring to an avatar being used on the internet? In an effort to overcome these difficulties the Google, Bing, Yahoo! and Yandex search engines developed Schema.org which was launched on 2nd June 2011. Schema.org details what is known as Structured Data mark-up, a way to tell the search engines exactly what your web page's content is about. While Google has stated that utilising Structured Data will not necessarily improve your search engine rankings, a study by Searchmetrics in April of 2014 found that 36.6% of Google's search results contained "at least one snippet with information derived from Schema.org." Surprisingly though the same study found that only 0.3% of domains are using the Schema mark-up, mostly being larger sites. Dr Holmes from Clear Health Media remarked, "we developed this tool for our own internal use as we frequently use Schema mark-up when preparing content for our clients. However when we saw the lack of medical related Schema tools available we decided to make it available for others to use as well." As present the tool provides mark-up around the Medical Condition area of the Schema, however Clear Health Media reports that they plan to expand this to other forms of medical mark-up in the near future.
