Barclays Appoints Chief Operations And Technology Officer

(Alliance News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LONDON (Alliance News) - Barclays PLC Thursday said it has appointed a new chief operations and technology officer, moving to replace Shaygan Kheradpir, who resigned in November in order to become the chief executive of the US's Juniper Networks Inc.

In a statement, Barclays said it has appointed Michael Harte to the role. He is currently group executive of enterprise services and chief information officer at Commonwealth Bank of Australia Group.

Harte will report to Barclays Chief Executive Antony Jenkins and will be a member of the group's executive committee.

"Given Michael’s wealth of experience, he is ideally placed to lead the transformation of the Barclays Operations and Technology function and its continued focus on customer innovation, digital services and process automation," Jenkins said in a statement.

In November 2013, Barclays launched an internal and external search to find a successor to Kheradpir who quit after being appointed in March 2013, when he was made responsible for the operational processes and systems which support the delivery of products and services to Barclays’ customers and clients, as well as for the bank’s technology agenda.

Kheradpir had joined Barclays from Verizon in January 2011 in the role of chief operating officer for retail and business banking.

Chief Information Officer Darryl West has been acting as Barclays' interim chief operations and technology officer.

Barclays shares were Thursday quoted at 256.00 pence, up 1.5%.
