SCRA Congratulates Winners of Governor's Awards


COLUMBIA, S.C. --(Business Wire)--

SCRA today congratulated the recipients of the South Carolina Academy of Science's Governor's Awards for Excellence in Science. Governor Nikki Haley recently presented five awards to researchers from Clemson University and the University of South Carolina (USC). Each award recognized excellence in a different area of science.

The awards, created in 1985 and sponsored by SCRA, SCRA Technology Ventures and MWV, honor individuals or teams within South Carolina that have made extraordinary achievements and contributions to science. SCRA sponsored three awards for Excellence in Scientific Research, won by Dr. Apparao Rao of Clemson Dr. John Ballato of Clemson and Dr. Russell Pate of USC. SCRA Technology Ventures sponsored the Young Researcher Award for Excellence in Scientific Research, won by Dr. Brian Powell of Clemson. Dr. Pate was also selected for the Excellence in Scientific Awareness Award, sponsored by MWV.
