Kuwait's Qualitynet trials Hotspot 2.0 Wi-Fi platform [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]
(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Kuwaiti broadband service provider Qualitynet has completed the trial of its Hotspot 2.0 infrastructure, which utilises the IEEE802.11u protocol.
The trial was carried out in partnership with US-based vendor Aruba Networks. Hotspot 2.0 is designed to allow automatic discovery and secure connection to Wi-Fi hotspots for mobile devices.
Qualitynet's Wi-Fi network consists of 350 hotspots across the Gulf nation, which are aimed at providing seamless transition between indoor and outdoor coverage in public areas.
Mustafa Al-Najjar, general manager of network services at Qualitynet, said: "Our Hotspot 2.0-powered 'Qfi' network helps us partner with any mobile network operator, whereby their users switch to our network automatically within coverage areas. Offloading their Internet traffic onto our Qfi Network will ease the traffic [carried on] their 3G/LTE infrastructure, which in turn will ultimately benefit the user."
