Kondhwa techie duped of Rs7.15 L [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]


(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) """Pune: A software techie was duped by a man, she was dating with on a social networking site, to the tune of Rs7.15 lakh under the pretext of sending her diamond jewellery and US dollars.



Incident came to light, when techie (31) lodged a complaint with Kondhwa police station against Sampat Kumar, Sandip Ghosh and Anita Sharma under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code comprises of cheating and an act done by them with common intention and also under the relevant sections the Information Technology Act.

Inspector (Crime) S D Pachorkar of Kondhwa police station said, "Victim was looking for al ife partner of life partner and came in contact with Sampat on a social networking site in March this year. They got friendly and started communicating. Later, Sampat who personated himself as officer in Merchant Navy proposed her and show his willingness to marry her." He added, "Sampat claimed that he can get pure gold and best diamond jewellery in Dubai and US and have good contacts. After few days, he told her that he has sent her courier. In April, the techie receives a call from Mumbai that two parcels have come in her name and need to pay additional amount of Rs 1 lakh as custom charges. She was again told to transfer additional amount of Rs 2 lakh on three different occasions in Sandip and Anita's accounts. But after this Sandip has disappeared and this is when she realised that she was duped." Police are investigating the case further.
