Risk of cancer 'tripled by 15hrs a month on mobile' [Mirror (UK)]
(Mirror (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TALKING on a mobile phone for more than 15 hours a month triples the risk of brain cancer, scientists claimed yesterday.
French experts found the increased danger for intensive users - especially workers such as sales reps - when they examined nearly 450 brain tumour cases.
The research will reignite the debate over phone safety.
Past studies have linked mobiles to cancer but struggled to produce conclusive results when factors such as smoking were considered.
But Roger Salamon, of the "There is no reason to panic. This does not mean that everyone who makes a call with a mobile phone is going to get a brain tumour."
In contrast with previous research, the study, published by journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine, found tumours the brain to where the phone was used. But experts pointed out more research was needed as the cancer cases were from 2004 to 2006.
They said mobile use had since gone up while handsets now gave out lower intensity radio waves.
