World Telecom, Info Society Day observed
(United News of Bangladesh Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dhaka, May 17 (UNB) The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was observed in the country on Saturday as elsewhere across the globe.
The theme of this year's day was 'Broadband for Sustainable Development'.
This year, the national important programmes marking the day were held in Khulna city. The inaugural programme was held at a local hotel where Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique spoke as the chief guest.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry Imran Ahmed and Begum Munnujan Sufian MP, among others, addressed the programme.
Dr Pallab Kumar Chowdhury, an Assistant Professor of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of Khulna University, presented the keynote paper at the function.
A road show was brought out from Shibbari intersection of Khulna which ended at Cable Industries Ltd.
Various programmes were held in Khuna throughout the day with the assistance of BTRC, BTCL, Teletalk, BSCCL, mobile operators and telecommunication-providing organisations and the district administration.
