Monteris Medical's NeuroBlate System for Minimally Invasive Ablation of Brain Lesions to be Presented at Annual Neurosurgery Meeting
MINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)--
Monteris Medical announced today that the NeuroBlate® System
for MR-guided neurosurgical ablation will be presented to members and
attendees at the Bienniel meeting of the American Society of
Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery on June 3 in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Gene Barnett, MD, Director of the Rose Ella Burkhardt Brain Tumor
and NeuroOncology Center at the Cleveland Clinic, will present his
experience utilizing NeuroBlate System laser ablation in patients with
brain tumors and radiation necrosis, a chronic inflammatory condition
occasionally caused by high-dose, therapeutic radiation. Dr. Barnett and
his colleagues have shown that by employing magnetic resonance (MR)
imaging and software based visualization offered by the NeuroBlate
System they are often able to completely ablate (treat with high heat)
tumors through a very small hole in the skull. They published their
results in the May issue of the on-line Journal "Cancer Medicine".
"We are pleased to have the NeuroBlate System included in this
scientific meeting agenda," remarked John E. Schellhorn, President and
CEO of Monteris Meical. "Patients who have received this minimally
invasive laser ablation therapy for brain lesions have gone to
post-surgical recovery with a small bandage on their scalp rather than a
large suture line. We are proud of our technology's contribution to
less-invasive brain surgery."
The ASSFN meeting will be held May 31-June 3, 2014 in Washington, D.C.
About the NeuroBlate System®
The NeuroBlate System is FDA-cleared to ablate, necrotize or coagulate
soft tissue encountered in the discipline of neurosurgery through the
application of thermal therapy. NeuroBlate is a tool, and not a
treatment, which is used by physicians to address various medical
conditions including brain tumors and tissue inflamed by radiation
necrosis, among others. This press release discusses radiation necrosis.
NeuroBlate is not indicated to treat, cure, prevent, mitigate or
diagnose any specific disease, including radiation necrosis. Full
prescribing information for the NeuroBlate System is available at www.monteris.com.
Monteris Medical is a privately held company developing innovative
MRI-guided, laser-based brain lesion therapy. Monteris Medical markets
the NeuroBlate® System, a neurosurgical ablation
device providing controlled therapy for difficult-to-treat brain
lesions. Monteris also offers the AXiiiS® Stereotactic
Miniframe; a single use platform for image-guided, stereotactic brain
biopsy; and the AtamA™ Stabilization System for MRI-guided neurosurgical
procedures requiring head fixation.
