Ooredoo showcases smart cyber security solutions in Dubai [Gulf Times (Qatar)]

(Gulf Times (Qatar) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Ooredoo team at the GISEC 2014 in Dubai recently.

Ooredoo has showcased the 'power and protection' of its suite of Ooredoo Smart Cyber Security Solutions at the region's largest security event, GISEC 2014 (Gulf Information Security Exhibition & Conference), held in Dubai recently.

Senior executives and government representatives from across the region were hosted on Ooredoo's stand, as more and more companies and institutions invest in technology that can protect them from cyber-attacks, natural disasters and data loss.

In particular, companies are responding to the threats posed by the greater connectivity made possible by the use of smart phones and other devices, which can carry malware to benefit hackers. A recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers' (PwC), the 2014 Global Economic Crime Survey, suggests that cybercrime is now the second most reported economic crime in the Middle East.

Ooredoo has taken the lead in protecting organisations in Qatar, and is increasingly being contacted by companies in other parts of the region, the company said. Its services, which include the latest Distributed Denial of Service Attack defences, Cloud Security, Out of Country Disaster Recovery (DR) and secure cloud-based delivery, are designed to provide a higher level of support for companies and are supported by the most advanced data centre in the Mena (Middle East and North Africa) region, the Ooredoo Data Centre.

Apart from displaying a strong presence on the exhibition floor, representatives from Ooredoo also participated in the Information Security expert panel, a key opportunity for industry and government thought leaders to discuss the range of threats facing modern businesses – and the range of smart countermeasures that are available.

Ooredoo chief operating officer Waleed Mohamed al-Sayed said, "Ooredoo is one of the leading and most trusted providers of communication security in Qatar and is now being recognised as a regional cyber security specialist, thanks to our state-of-the-art security solutions supported by the Ooredoo Data Centre. Our participation in GISEC 2014 is a key chance to display our latest solutions and to exchange ideas with the cyber-security community." Wael Doukmak, Ooredoo director (ICT & mega projects business development) said, "We have the right balance of expertise and experience to protect our customers' local and global information security needs, and are working with a range of industry leaders to develop dedicated solutions for them. We understand the specific threats facing banks, financial companies, government and logistics groups and have worked with our partners to develop a full portfolio of tailored, bespoke countermeasures." In its role as a core systems integrator, Ooredoo works with a number of partners to refine and enhance Smart Cyber Security Solutions, supported by a team of subject matter experts who work with clients on bespoke projects in key industries.
