Skillz Granted Two New Patents

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--

Skillz (www.skillz.com), the world's premier cash competition platform for mobile games, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued two new patents: U.S. Patent 8,414,387 which relates to a peer-to-peer software platform that enables wagering on online skill-based games and U.S. Patent 8,715,077 which relates to dynamic advertising based on gameplay and wagering on online skill-based games. Skillz has exclusive rights to both patented technologies.

Offline cash competitions are a celebrated part of American culture in the form of marathons, bowling leagues, spelling bees, chess tournaments, and rodeos. Online cash competitions have been rapidly gaining popularity with the rise of eSports. Skillz is the first company to invent a technology that facilitates eSports for everyone by bringing these types of skill gaming competitions to mobile.

"As the market for cash competitions in eSports continues to grow, we're proud to have invented a technology that enables mobile game developers to profitably offer eSports cash competitions in their games. Skillz helps game developers build sustainable businesses while simultaneously enabling players to compete," said Andrew Paradise, Founder and CEO of Skillz. "We're working tirelessly to create a better world for both gamers and developers and are thrilled to have our intellectual property protected."

By inventing the world's first cash competition platform for mobile games (U.S. Patent 8,414,387), Skillz has patented the only technology that drives revenue for game studios while enhancing the player experience. In today's increasingly competitive mobile gaming climate, this monetization technology attracts gamers, keeps them engaged, and leads to better app store reviews. Skillz is the monetization solution mobile game developers have been searching for.

With its second patent (U.S. Patent 8,715,077), Skillz makes eSports more accessible with dynamic gameplay advertisements that enable players to see how they would fare against would-be competitors who are already playing in eSports competitions. The company has several more patents pending and continues to work toward its mission of enabling eSports for everyone.
