TIA Provides Input on Tomorrow's Net Neutrality Hearing; Says Internet Must Remain Free & Open with 'Light Touch' Regulatory Approach(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ARLINGTON, Va., June 19 -- The Telecommunications Industry Association issued the following news release: The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, sent a letter to Chairman Spencer Bachus and Rep. Hank Johnson ahead of tomorrow's House Judiciary Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law hearing on net neutrality. "The Internet must continue to remain free and open, allowing for the connectivity of devices and access to information," TIA President Grant Seiffert wrote in the letter. "The question of whether or not to impose utility-style regulation on Internet Service Providers has previously been thoroughly considered - and rejected by the FCC. The Internet has flourished due to our country's long-standing light touch regulatory approach." The letter also drew attention to evidence previously released by TIA that underscores the negative impact of reclassifying the Internet under the Communications Act as a Title II telecommunications service.
