Performanta has new chief technology officer [ITWeb]

(ITWeb Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Stephen Kreusch has been appointed as Performanta's new CTO. He is replacing Enlin Neveling. Kreusch will manage the strategy around Performanta's technology offering, including the careful selection of new technologies as well as engagements with Performanta's customers with regards to security strategies, technology solutions and managed services.

Kreusch started his security career in 1997 at a large South African bank, where he was responsible for cryptographic development and support, and network security. Kreusch supported cryptographic key management, hardware security modules and developed cryptographic software for the bank's ATM and branch systems, credit card POS devices, Internet banking platform, and SWIFT links.

He was a member of the team that delivered secure Internet banking to the South African market at a time when the USA restricted the export of strong cryptography, limiting foreign countries to weakened, export-grade key lengths. During his time at the bank, Kreusch attended a six-week residency at IBM's research labs in Germany, where he co-authored an IBM Redbook.

The next seven years saw Kreusch working for a large professional services and auditing firm, where he performed network and system security audits, penetration tests and vulnerability assessments, and provided security consulting and design services for local and international clients across Africa, Europe, South America and Australia. During this time, Kreusch developed and presented security training to local and international staff of the professional services firm. For the last two years, Kreusch served as the co-sourced CISO for a large South African retailer, reporting to the CIO, and managing the security delivery of infrastructure and application outsource partners.

In 2007, Kreusch joined a large mobile network operator where he led security architecture and later security engineering. Kreusch either led or was a member of teams that implemented and supported identity and access governance, database activity monitoring, security information and event management, data leak protection, and secure file transfer solutions, and providing security support, architecture and consulting services to non-security projects. During his time at the MNO, Kreusch led security incident investigation and response.

Kreusch contributed to the open source OSSEC host-based intrusion detection system project, and has presented at the ITWeb Security Summit and ZaCon community-driven infosec conference.

"We have known Stephen for a number of years now and he always impressed us with his wide knowledge and professionalism," says Attie Booyens, Performanta COO. "To have him in our team has been a longstanding objective." Kreusch joined Performanta at the beginning of 2014 and took up the position of CTO in June.
