Internet safety expert to visit [Gloucestershire Echo (England)]

(Gloucestershire Echo (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AN EXPERT on child internet safety is set to speak to pupils and parents at Pate's Grammar School in Cheltenham next week.

Professor Tanya Byron, a top Government advisor on child psychology, will be at the school's Festival of Education next Friday.

The 46-year-old has outspoken views on children's online behaviour.

She said earlier this year that demonising social media and online gaming was not the way to turn children into "responsible digital citizens".

She said: "We need to accept that kids are going to take risks online so that we can guide them, just as our parents did when we were allowed to ride our bikes until it was time to come home for tea." Russel Ellicott, headteacher at Pate's, said: "We are excited to host a unique event that will help students, teachers and parents alike." Tickets cost Pounds 15 each from patesgs.ticketsource.co.uk or call 01242 538276.
