ChinaJoy 2014 to Present World Digital Entertainment Intellectual Property Cooperation Conference
BEIJING --(Business Wire)--
As IP (Intellectual Property) continues to gain importance in the mobile
game ecosystem in 2014, industry players have come to realize that they
will not be able to move forward without IP assets. Under the
circumstances, the upcoming ChinaJoy 2014 will present the first World
Digital Entertainment Intellectual Property Cooperation Conference
(WIPCON) to focus on the IP issues of the industry.
A number of China's game companies have initiated IP protection
campaigns against piracy and infringement of game products since last
year, among which mobile games were frequently involved. Meanwhile, the
continual disputes over the copyrights of game products have also made
IP a hot issue. In addition to a stronger awareness of copyright
protection, it also reflects the mobile game companies' competition for
consumers.
Compared with PC games, mobile games are more popular and enjoy a larger
user base. In order to appeal to non-gamers, like female user, the
mobile game companies intend to leverage the influence of classic and
popular novels. Mobile games adapted from classic novels can easily
resonate with the books' numerous fans, and therefore stand a larger
chance to succeed with a longer life cycle and greater commercial value.
As a result, mobile game companies are investing heavily on IP assets.
In China's IP market, popular novels to be adapted priced at RMB 1
million last year have seen their prices surge to RMB 2-5 million, while
the best sellers can be sold for up to RMB 10 million. At the same time,
the prices of animation, and film & television works have rocketed as
well. However, the increasing cost has not diminished the mobile game
companies' desire for copyrights.
WIPCON 2014 to be simultaneously held with ChinaJoy will be the world's
first international IP conference to discuss business cooperation in
areas related to digital entertainment IP cooperation and authorization,
including game, animation, literature, and film & television industries.
WIPCON will focus on the promotion of IP trading and IP cooperation in
the global digital entertainment industry, the regulation of IP
utilization, and the protection of the legitimate rights and interests
of the IP owners. It will discuss the creation of a healthy industry
ecosystem, and facilitate the cooperation between the IP users and IP
owners in the areas of game, film & television, animation and literature.
The event will invite experts, scholars and executives from game, film &
television, animation and literature industries to give speeches and
seminars on the utilization of IP and copyright cooperation in the
digital entertainment industry, aiming to create a platform for
international IP cooperation of the industry and help regulate the
crossover cooperation.
