New iPad App from Scientific Learning Corp. Helps Struggling Students Achieve Reading Gains

OAKLAND, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Research shows that the iPad® can benefit learners of all ages, improving student engagement and boosting perseverance. With more than 10 million iPads in U.S. schools, these findings are particularly exciting for struggling learners, who can be harder to engage and may have trouble enduring learning challenges. Scientific Learning Corp. (OTCQB:SCIL) today announces the availability of the Fast ForWord® program on the iPad, the latest in a continued effort to provide preK-12 schools with options for treating the underlying cause of language and reading difficulties. Scheduled for release this fall, the new iPad app will enable schools to provide the benefits of the Fast ForWord language and literacy intervention to students through a new medium. The award-winning program was developed by neuroscientists to address foundational language and literacy skills, while concurrently developing memory, attention, processing and sequencing skills. Students who use the program can make up to two years' gain in three months in reading and language skills.

Students will be able to access and complete Fast ForWord exercises on iPads in the classroom, at home, at the library or anywhere with an Internet connection. In addition, the application's touch-screen technology and animated graphics will make it easier to captivate kindergarten and high school learners alike.

"While convenience is important to schools, what's even more important is the ability to maintain the high level of gains they expect from the Fast ForWord program," said Robert C. Bowen, CEO of Scientific Learning. "Our new iPad application will make it possible for schools to expand their use of Fast ForWord to help more students - from at-risk and special education students, to English language learners, to gifted students - accelerate their reading growth. The touch-screen functionality of the iPad will also make it easier to use the program with younger elementary and preschool students, which will make a big difference in their academic careers."

Scientific Learning accelerates learning by applying proven research on how the brain learns. Learners can realize gains of up to two years in as little as three months and maintain an accelerated rate of learning even after the programs end. Please visit www.scientificlearning.com.
