Flourishing despite tough times [Derby Evening Telegraph (England)]

(Derby Evening Telegraph (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SHARON Stevens-Cash launched marketing agency Essential Marketing Solutions just weeks after the Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy on 15th September 2008 - the day that has been described as the worst economic crisis in living memory.

Not the best time to strike out alone - but that hasn't stopped Sharon whose business has gone from strength to strength - winning new contracts throughout the region and beyond.

Sharon, who is based at Friar Gate Studios, describes how marketing has shaped up in the last six years: "I know we have all heard this before but I can't emphasise enough how challenging and exciting the last six years have been for anyone running their own business. No financial quarter has been 'typical' for example, I have won more contracts since January this year than over the previous 12 months. It's almost as if the UK has woken up.

"Marketing used to be simple, then along came digital which blasted it into many different disciplines. I believe the pace of new digital technology becoming more accessible has in many ways been driven by the recession and our desire to find alternative marketing and communication platforms.

"From social media to mobile responsive websites, right now we want it all. I am lucky to work in marketing and communications, and I love the ever changing world we operate. I can only trust that this current pace can be maintained through careful planning and not trying to do too much at the same time."
