Two Colorado Springs business executives named winners of entrepreneurial award [Gazette, The (CO)]

(Gazette, The (CO) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Two Colorado Springs executives were among nine business people from western states honored this week as winners of a regional EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2014, which recognizes entrepreneurial achievement in the business world.

Scott Drake, president and CEO of Spectranetics Corp., and Vance Brown, president and CEO of Cherwell Software, received the awards during a ceremony Thursday in Denver. EY - short for Ernst & Young - is a global professional services firm and one of the so-called big four accounting firms. Ernst & Young LLP serves EY clients in the United States.

The awards, in their 28th year, recognize entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, financial performance and community dedication, among other achievements, according to EY officials.

Drake and Brown won in EY's Mountain Desert region, one of 25 areas in the U.S. where awards are given.

Regional winners move on to a national awards program in November in Palm Springs, Calif., where 11 winners will be chosen. One of those 11 will be selected as an overall winner to represent the U.S. in EY's global awards program next year in Monte Carlo.

Spectranetics, a medical laser manufacturer, was founded in the 1980s; Cherwell, which was launched a decade ago, develops business software.
