HTC One M8 & M7 confirmed to support Android L update [Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia)]
(Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) This year’s Google I/O brought a number of big announcements surrounding the Android operating system, but none bigger than Android L, which was previewed at the conference prior to being released to developers on Friday so they can begin tinkering with it for new devices.
What is Android L, Google’s next generation OS for more than just mobiles?
While they work on bringing on the software front, what about hardware? No doubt many device manufacturers will be working on it in the coming months, but the first to officially reveal their involvement is HTC, which confirmed Android L releases for last year’s HTC One M7, and also for the HTC One M8 that came out this year.
Not only that, but apparently the ‘L’ updates will be available for both smartphones within 90 days of Google supplying the source code, which is not the same as the developer kit as it does not represent the final software to be available in Android L. The actual date the HTC Ones will receive the update is therefore not fixed, but HTC South Asia president Jack Yang confirms that once HTC has the software the update will be available to the flagship phones within 3 months.
“HTC is excited about the new features in the *Android L release and we can't wait to share them with our customers. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible,” said Yang. “We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) in regions worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices."
