Florida Financial Alliance Prepares for MILITARY CONSUMER PROTECTION DAY Workshops

MIAMI --(Business Wire)--

When Service members experience financial difficulties, it negatively impacts morale and overall operational readiness. Studies have shown that financial struggles can impact readiness more than housing, child care or health concerns, and according to the DoD, financial problems are the leading cause of security clearance revocation or denial.

In response to these financial challenges faced by Military Families, the Department of Defense, the Federal Trade Commission (official event sponsor), and other military and financial service organizations have teamed up for MILITARY CONSUMER PROTECTION DAY on July 15 to empower the military community with tips and tools to promote their financial readiness. The Florida Financial Alliance and Army OneSource (News - Alert) will host financial education workshops at the US Army Garrison - Miami / US Southern Command Army Community Services Building on July 15 starting at 9:00am, 10:00am, 1:00pm, and 2:00pm. In addition, an agency fair will be held in the Exchange from 11:00am - 1:00pm. The workshops and fair are free and open to all Service members, Veterans and their Families.

"It is our goal to provide our military community with fnancial resources and education to help them become informed consumers. We want our Service members to feel confident and financially secure as they serve our country and focus on their missions," said Mr. Richard Zimmelman, United States Army Garrison - Miami Financial Program Manager.

During the day, attendees can participate in financial workshops on topics ranging from "Budgeting 101" to "Divorce, Credit, and Strategies for Single Parents". Informational tables will offer materials on valuable programs and resources available to the military community. As an incentive, a $50 gift card will be awarded to one attendee in each workshop and at the Army OneSource table during the agency fair. "We encourage our local military community to take advantage of these workshops. This year we have workshops specifically geared for new and single parents and sessions about raising financially smart children," said Lacey Elmange, Army OneSource Community Support Coordinator.

The MILITARY CONSUMER PROTECTION DAY workshops are made possible through the support of Army OneSource, the Florida Financial Alliance, US Army Garrison - Miami , and Consolidated Credit Counseling Services.
