BRIEF: Former JPMorgan exec joins First Niagara board [The Buffalo News, N.Y. :: ]

(Buffalo News (NY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 01--First Niagara Financial Group named Austin A. Adams, former corporate chief information officer for JPMorgan Chase, to its board of directors.

First Niagara said Adams led technology and operations for three of the nation's largest banks during his career: JPMorgan Chase, Bank One Corp. and First Union Corp. He retired from JPMorgan in 2006 and has continued to advise financial services companies on information technology platforms, First Niagara said.

Adams joins the board as Buffalo-based First Niagara is in the midst of a multiyear plan to spend $200 million to $250 million on technology and other initiatives designed to maximize the bank's profitability.

"Austin was one of the first bankers to see that infrastructure, technology and data can be leveraged to improve the customer experience and differentiate a financial institution from its competition," said Gary M. Crosby, First Niagara's president and chief executive officer, in a statement.
