Rijiju reviews infrastructure development in Arunachal Pradesh [Guwahati] [Times of India](Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW DELHI: Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Friday reviewed infrastructure development programmes in border areas of the northeast and called for engagement with local people to provide basic amenities in the remote villages and towns. Rijiju is on his maiden official visit to Arunachal Pradesh where he is learnt to have interacted with the state chief minister Nabam Tuki and other senior officials of the state and Centre. Focus of the visit and interactions was to review infrastructure development programmes in border areas and remote towns and villages, said sources. Broadly, the progress of ongoing schemes, the priority concern of the armed forces/central armed police forces and ways to improve co-ordination and efficient delivery were discussed. The issue of telecom services and strengthening of the same was also discussed and BSNL was asked to improve the same on priority. Tuki, presented a memorandum on behalf of the state government highlighting some new proposals for integrated development of remote/border areas. This is in addition to the memorandum already submitted to Union Home Minister and Prime Minister. Rijiju assured a prompt consideration of this memorandum. Two detailed interactions were held under the co-chairmanship of Rijiju and Tuki. The GOC, 4 Corps; GOC, 3 Corps; Air Officer Commanding, Eastern Air Command, Indian Air Force; Zonal Chief Engineers of BRO; senior Officers of ITBP, BSNL and other central security and police agencies, were present along with all senior officials of the state government. While addressing a press conference after the meeting, Rijiju said that after reviewing the presentations made by planning department, ITBP and state police, it is concluded that Arunachal Pradesh lacks basic facilities especially in border areas. He emphasized the importance of engaging the people of border areas by providing basic amenities. Regarding BADP, he said, he has already taken up the matter with prime minister and home minister. As for all the memoranda submitted by the Arunachal Pradesh CM, he assured that these memoranda will get their due importance and consideration.
