Move signals growth for MAJR Products [The Meadville Tribune, Pa. :: ]

(Meadville Tribune (PA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 06--SAEGERTOWN -- A major force in the electronics industry, MAJR Products Corp. of Saegertown is working on growing into a major employer in the community.

MAJR is a maker of shielding products to eliminate electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference (EMI and RFI) in electronics.

Growing demand for products made by the firm is driving the need both for more space and employees.

Last month, MAJR moved to the former Multi-Plastics Building at Route 198 and Park Avenue Extension -- about tripling its available space. MAJR officials also expect the total number of employees to increase by more than 50 percent in 2014.

"We were jammed at the other building," Donald Hester, president of MAJR products, said of its previous location, a 17,000-square-foot building on Route 198 west of Saegertown near Interstate 79.

The former Multi-Plastics building is a 53,000-square-foot facility, though MAJR isn't using all of it, Hester said.

MAJR moved out of its former location May 29 and set up operations in its new facility June 3.

"It was a little hectic coordinating everything," Hester said. "We were up-and-running again June 3." MAJR makes gaskets, gaskets for connectors, EMI/RFI ventilation panels and filters, shielded fan vents, EMI windows and other products.

Those items are used in consumer electronics, military electronics, computers and related electronics equipment and medical electronics.

EMI/RFI shielding is need to make sure equipment is operating both accurately and reliably and free of interference from other equipment, according to Hester.

MAJR counts leading defense contractors as Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, and telecommunications manufacturer Harris Corp. as its clients.

The expansion into a new product line -- a stainless steel and bronze frame product for Paramount Electronics -- has been a boon to MAJR both in sales and the need for workers.

"Three months ago we had 19 employees, we're at 25 now," Hester said. "By the end of the year, we expect to be up to 30 employees." Keith Gushard can be reached at 724-6370 or by email at [email protected].
