Thousands Come Out to Race in 12th Annual Life Time Tri Minneapolis


CHANHASSEN, Minn. --(Business Wire)--

More than 2,000 pro, elite amateur and first-time triathletes descended upon Lake Nokomis today to participate in the 2014 Life Time Tri Minneapolis presented by Toyota. This year marked the 12th anniversary of the event and served as the first race in the Toyota Triple Crown Triathlon Series.

Ben Collins (Chicago, IL) won the male professional division at 1:50:09 while Alicia Kaye (Colorado Springs, CO) won the female professional division at 1:59:51. Other top finishers in the men's professional division included Cameron Dye (Boulder, CO) in second place with a time of 1:51:10, followed by third-place finisher Hunter Kemper (Colorado Springs, CO) with a time of 1:51:20. In the female professional division, Radka Vodickova (Czech Republic) finished second with a time of 2:04:07 and Jillian Peterson (Colorado Springs, CO) finished third with a time of 2:08:17.

Professional triathletes battled for the event's $30,000 purse, with Alicia Kaye and Ben Collins taking home $7,000 each and 100 points in the Toyota Triple Crown series. The 2014 Life Time Tri Pro Series cash purse offers $450,000, including $250,000 in individual race awards and an additional $200,000 awarded to Life Time Tri Pro Series champions crowned at the series finale - Life Time Tri Oceanside. With the addition of the Toyota Triple Crown, the overall 2014 Life Time Tri cash purse is $500,000.

ABOUT THE TOYOTA TRIPLE CROWN:

The male and female winners of Life Time Tri Minneapolis will earn 100 points in the Toyota Triple Crown, in which professional triathletes have six nationwide Life Time Tri events to choose from to earn points toward the Life Time Tri Series Championship with a total cash purse of $450,000. Athletes earn points at a minimum of three and up to five in the 2014 Life Time Tri Series events, including the Series Championship event - Life Time Tri Oceanside. The 2014 Life Time Tri Pro Series cash purse includes $200,000 in individual race awards, $50,000 to the Toyota Triple Crown winner and an additional $200,000 awarded to Life Time Tri Pro Series champions crowned at Life Time Tri Oceanside. To qualify for race awards, pros must start at least three events, including the Life Time Tri Oceanside, the series finale. The top five events will count towards their overall standings and the official finishing times at Life Time Tri Oceanside will serve as a tiebreaker.
