Damart to be probed over prize mix-ups [Sunday Mirror (England)]

(Sunday Mirror (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PENSIONERS are being lured into buying items they don't want by a big mail order firm, a consumer campaign group says.

Catalogue giant Damart is accused of sending its elderly customers mailshots which they wrongly take to mean they have won up to Pounds 50,000.

The Advertising Standards Authority - which reprimanded the firm over a similar promotion last year - is looking at a complaint from Think Jessica, a charity which keeps watch on mass marketing.

Founder Marilyn Baldwin said: "The relatives of confused elderly people say they are ordering goods because they think they've won thousands. One woman got four identical coats." A Damart spokesman said: "We work hard to follow the code on advertising, sales and marketing. We'll look at this complaint when we have the details."
