Charge your phone or miss your flight Dubai International implements new security measures on flights to US, UK and Canada [Gulf News (United Arab Emirates)]

(Gulf News (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dubai: New security measures at Dubai International airport will require passenger travelling to the US, UK and Canada to have their electronic devices, which includes smartphones, laptops and tablets, to be charged or face missing their flight.

Anyone who cannot turn on their device could be barred from boarding, according to an Emirates statement on Sunday. Passengers travelling on long-haul flights will also have to ensure their devices hold enough charge to transit.

On Sunday in the check-in area in Terminal 3, home to Emirates, a sign advised passengers that "additional security measures to the United State, Canada and United Kingdom are in place. Please ensure your electronic device is charged and can be switched on prior to boarding." Emirates' comment confirms that Dubai International is one of several airports around the world that has ramped up security checks since the US Department of Homeland Security issued a broad warning two weeks ago. The new regulation where implemented by the US Transport Security Administration (TSA) last Tuesday.
