Hospital offers patients online access to medical records [The Laurinburg Exchange, N.C. :: ]

(Laurinburg Exchange, The (NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 12--LAURINBURG -- With the launch of Scotland Memorial's secure Internet patient portal, both inpatients and outpatients can now view their medical record online, at no additional cost.

"Medical information is now available in a timely, convenient manner," said Matt Pracht, vice president of finance. "Before the portal, patients had to return to the hospital to request their medical records, which some patients found difficult to do. Now they can view their records when and where they desire to do so." Patients must supply hospital staff with a valid email address during a visit. Upon discharge, they will receive an email with login instructions.

RelayHealth provides patients access to lab results, radiology and procedure results, medications, vital signs, allergies, immunizations and more. The portal will also prevent unnecessary treatment and re-testing, saving money for patients and the hospital.

Parents or guardians of pediatric patients can request access to and manage their child's personal health information.

This new Patient Portal is offered free of charge to Scotland's patients. The site is HIPAA-compliant and uses the latest encryption technology.
