Huawei Set to Unveil 4G Network in Kenya


(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Huawei Technologies is set to start deploying the faster fourth generation ( 4G) network in Kenya with a local telecommunications firm.

Huawei showed off the technology at its annual open day dubbed as 'Connected Possibilities Make it possible,' held to showcase its various ICT solutions to consumers. The event offered selected clients an opportunity to test the high-speed internet that it said would be enjoyed once the network is in place in December.



Huawei working in partnership with a local telecommunication company to ensure Kenyans access mobile data faster through 4G. Also referred to as Long Term Evolution, 4G is the next advancement mobile data connectivity after 3G technology.

"We believe we are playing an important role in bridging the digital divide in Kenya, creating opportunities through education, and contributing to the growth of Kenya's ICT market through various social responsibility programmes that we have put in place," explained Dean Yu, Huawei Kenya country director.


He also added that Huawei's aim is to connect Kenya to all possibilities that Huawei has developed through this international experience and experience.

Huawei is one of the leading suppliers to Safaricom. The tech firm built Safaricom's 2G and 3G networks through partnership to bring bring the digital city project to life and put up its extensive fibre-optic network. In addition, Huawei is helping Safaricom upgrade its M-PESA platform from G1 to G2, which will enable Safaricom to provide more advanced features to its users.

In addition, Huawei has supported Telkom Kenya build its fixed ADSL, FTTx and CDMA networks. Huawei also built the National Optical Fibre Backbone Infrastructure for the Government in 2011.
