cSubs Fuels Innovation and Advantage with Ariba

SUNNYVALE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

In today's hyper-connected always on economy, eCommerce isn't just a faster, more convenient way for consumers to get the things they need to manage their personal lives. It's fast becoming the de facto standard for businesses to secure the goods and services necessary to run their operations. Recognizing this trend, cSubs, a knowledge resource management provider, set up shop on the Ariba® Network nearly a decade ago. And today, it is leveraging the world's largest, most global business-to-business trading platform to not only connect and transact with its customers more efficiently, but to deliver innovations that simplify and enhance the way they do business.

It all started with the most basic need that every company must meet: customer demand. "We had customers coming to us saying 'this is the way we do business.' So we had to put an eCommerce platform in place," recalls Ken Redler, Chief Technology Officer at cSubs, whose business is helping companies procure, manage, and analyze their subscriptions, books, memberships, software licenses, and other knowledge resources.

As a small business, cSubs needed to find a way to meet these requirements without spending huge amounts of time and resources. And it found one in Ariba, an SAP company.

cSubs began by launching an eCommerce site on the Ariba Network in 2005 and creating a PunchOut catalog through which its customers could more effectively manage the increasingly complex flow of content entering their organizations. "We were able to quickly and easily get the infrastructure we needed in place," Redler says.

And within two years, 25 percent of the company's business was coming from this new channel. "The great thing about Ariba is once you're on board, your logo appears right next to the logo of billion-dollar companies," Redler says. "And that's been a great growth driver for a small company like cSubs."

In 2012, cSubs took things to the next level and launched the cSubs Clarity Service, a new licensed content and contract management solution that leverages the workflow capabilities of the network to provide customers with centralized control of electronic content tasks and analytics, including pricing, contracts, access rights, renewals, usage statistics, and terms and conditions.

"In their early days, business networks were all about connecting buyers and sellers to collaborate more efficiently," said Dr. Chakib Bouhdary, President, Business Networks, SAP (News - Alert). "But they are fast becoming a platform for business innovation and competitive advantage, as companies like cSubs leverage the Ariba Network as a channel to deliver new products, reach new customers and drive revenue."

According to Redler, the launch of the cSubs Clarity Service has enabled the company to take a complex, hard-to-manage category and make it easy for its customers. "And it gives us a tremendous leg up in competing with much larger companies, which has been a great growth driver for our business," he adds.

It also provides cSubs visibility into order flow and payment cycles that enable the company to more efficiently manage its cash.

"When you're dealing with a big company, you're always worried about whether the invoice has been received or the check been sent," Redler says. "Being on the Ariba Network closes the loop and helps answers all those questions."
