Today, Aerospike announced that Vizury-a next-generation digital customer relationship management (CRM) company-relies on the open source Aerospike flash-optimized in-memory NoSQL database to power its big data platform. Using Aerospike, Vizury has been able to cut its server requirements by 4x, reducing operating costs while scaling to process more than 5 billion bid requests per day.

Global Growth and Mobile Solution Drive Demand for Higher Velocity Database

Since 2009, Vizury has provided personalized display and retargeting solutions for companies in the e-commerce, travel and hospitality industries across 27 countries. Originally, the company relied on a distributed memory object caching system to support its real-time bidding and recommendations. However, rapid customer adoption and the 2013 launch of a comprehensive mobile advertising retargeting product, MobiConvert, significantly increased the volume of data coming into Vizury's platform.

The company evaluated a number of open source databases with a range of storage options, including flash-based solid-state drives (SSDs).

The results of its testing led Vizury to select the Aerospike in-memory NoSQL database, which uses a patent-pending combination of indexes in RAM (News - Alert) and data in direct-attached SSDs for near in-memory speed at flash storage prices.

Today, the entire product suite across mobile and desktop channels is powered by Vizury's big data platform, which processes more than 30 terabytes of data daily, including purchase intent data of nearly 500 million users and tens of billion dollars of retail transaction data. Vizury's proprietary bidding and recommendation algorithms derive meaningful insights from this data, which are used to process bid requests to precisely target and engage users with highly personalized 1:1 messages.


Powering Vizury's platform are Aerospike servers running on Amazon R3 instances. With this implementation, Vizury handles 5 billion-plus bid requests per day across four data centers, responding in single digit milliseconds with user-specific bid values.
