Castiglione takes over chairman [The Moore American, Norman, Okla. :: ]

(Moore American, The (Norman, OK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 23--MOORE -- Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione has been named chairman of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee for the 2015-16 academic year.

Castiglione will also be vice chairman of the committee this year, working with Utah State athletic director Scott Barnes, who begins his term as chair on Sept. 1.

"I have been incredibly fortunate to have served on this committee with three outstanding chairs in Jeff Hathaway (Hofstra athletic director), Mike Bobinski (Georgia Tech athletic director) and current chair Ron Wellman of Wake Forest," Castiglione said in a statement. "Watching them lead the committee throughout the year and particularly through the selection process has been educational, and having the opportunity to work along with Scott in the coming year will serve as great preparation to fill this role.

It's an honor to be selected by my peers and I'm appreciative of the trust that this group, for which I have a tremendous amount of respect, has placed in me." Castiglione and Barnes will be joined on the 2014-15 committee by LSU athletic director Joe Alleva; Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis; Conference USA associate commissioner Judy MacLeod; Creighton athletic director Bruce Rasmussen; and Northeastern athletic director Peter Roby, along with first-year members North Carolina-Asheville athletic director Janet Cone; BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe; and Stanford athletic director Bernard Muir.

The group's primary task is selecting and seeding 68-team field for the NCAA tournament each March.

Castiglione has served on the committee since the 2011-12 season. His season as chairman will be his last on the committee.
