BRIEF: Restaurant tax problems being corrected [The Times-Tribune, Corbin, Ky. :: ]

(Times-Tribune (Corbin, KY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 24--LONDON -- Fazoli's is now collecting London's restaurant tax from its customers after nearly a month of not knowing it existed.

A meeting of the London Tourism and Convention Commission Monday revealed that some restaurants, such as Fazoli's, hadn't been collecting the tax.

Gary Osbourne, general manager at Fazoli's in London, said Wednesday he didn't realize the tax had went into effect this month, but that the problem has now been corrected.

City Clerk Carolyn Adams supported Osbourne's statement, saying "It seems like they just really didn't know." Osbourne was contacted by Adams about the problem after a customer noticed the error.

"I asked (Adams) to email me the forms and information so we could get it fixed," Osbourne said. "In turn, I gave that information to our IT department and we had it corrected within an hour." Osbourne said his business is now collecting the tax. Adams confirmed that Fazoli's is now charging the tax.

"I'm glad we were contacted about it before I had a bigger problem on down the road," Osbourne said.

London's restaurant tax went into effect July 1. The city has budgeted for $2.1 million to be generated from the tax.
