Advances in Compression Software are Discussed in a "Leading Edge" Episode Hosted by Jimmy Johnson

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) (PRWEB) July 26, 2014 Sending a file through email or other Internet services often requires a computer user to shrink down the file size. This is known as compression. It compacts all of the files together, so while it is not readable in its compressed form, once the file is extracted, it is ready to view. This compression software makes it easier to send and receive important information or even store data on a computer system in order to save valuable hard drive space. In years past, this compression software had the capability of cutting down the size of a file, often by almost 50 percent, depending on the original file. However, advances in compression software now make it possible to save the final, compressed version as a fraction of the original size. This has allowed everyone from computer programmers to Blu-ray movie manufacturers to have the ability to fit more information in a smaller, confined space.

As "Leading Edge" with Jimmy Johnson discovers, while the amount of computer storage has greatly increased over the past few years, so too has the average file size, making it important to utilize compression software. It is this software that has allowed for some of the largest improvements in digital technology to date. An upcoming segment will focus on the advances that have been made in compression as well as what is on the horizon.
