Labour department to educate IT cos on laws [Hyderabad] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) HYDERABAD: To educate the employees hired via outsourcing agencies at various information technology companies, the department of labour has come up with a proposal to teach them the various amendments prescribed in the labour laws, including spreading awareness on not employing children as domestic help. According to the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), nearly 250 IT companies and allied units are located in Cyber City, that is spread over Hi-Tec City, Madhapur, Gachibowli and surrounding areas. "Around 3.5 lakh outsourcing staff are employed in several categories, including human resource, house-keeping, security and IT servers monitoring. But they are totally unaware of labour laws. For example, if they are aware of the laws, they can challenge any sudden sacking by the company," V Srinivas Prasad, secretary, Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), told TOI. A special session on labour laws, exclusively for IT firms, is to be conducted on August 8 at Madhapur. After the session, the IT companies are likely to meet Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and request him to appoint a labour officer exclusively for the IT sector.
