Fury over extra role for fatcat 999 boss [Eire Region] [People, The (England)]

(People, The (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A FATCAT ambulance boss on a six-figure salary was not wanted by new bosses, says a secret letter leaked to the Sunday People.

Last week we revealed how head of West Midlands ambulance Anthony Marsh had his salary boosted Pounds 50,000 to Pounds 232,000 to also run the East of England service three days a week.

That means he earns Pounds 90,000 more than PM David Cameron.

But an East of England Ambulance Trust chief fired off a furious letter to NHS bigwigs in London, who made the decision.

Chairman Dr Geoffrey Harris said: "Your approach appears to take no account of the risk to service delivery and to patients.

"The transformation the Trust needs cannot be successfully led by a CEO working part-time." And he said there had been a culture of "promotions linked to favouritism rather than ability".

Labour MP Tom Watson said ministers must intervene in the row: "We're told he's good value for money. But this document reveals grave reservations about his appointment." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
