Bose sues Beats over patent infringements [T-break Tech (Middle East)]

(T-break Tech (Middle East) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) When Apple acquired Beats for 3 billion earlier this year, they didn’t count on acquiring the legal headaches that came with it. Bose is now suing Beats over patent infringement claims relating to its noise canceling technology in headphones. According to Bose, over 36 patents and patent applications have been infringed spanning over 50 years of design and research.

BREAKING: Bose sues Apple’s Beats over noise-canceling headphone patents. (via @CNBCJosh) $AAPL — CNBC (@CNBC) July 25, 2014   It may be no coincidence that Bose is choosing to file a suit against Beats now after their acquisition by Apple. While Apple’s lawyers seem more than formidable to handle the case, they now have to deal with a new litigation. Adding to their long list of patent battles with Samsung as it is. Beats products that are named in the filing include the Beats Studio Line, including the Studio Wireless Bluetooth headphones.

Bose claims these have infringed on their IP. Bose has also asked the court to issue an injunction preventing Beats from selling the products included in the suit. Bose may well have a case on their hands citing their product history of consumer and specialist headphones over several years.

Apple’s acquisition of Beats could build them into a leading audio powerhouse and that threatens Bose’s position. Along with the injunction, Bose is demanding a full sales figure of the infringing devices, court costs, that the infringement is willful and “other relief” measures that will be determined by court.
