Entergy Foundation Targets Education, Environmental Programs and Poverty Solutions


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW ORLEANS, July 29 -- Entergy issued the following news release: More than 100 nonprofit organizations are benefiting from $1.76 million in grant awards from the Entergy Charitable Foundation. The foundation is funded by shareholders of Entergy Corporation (NYSE: ETR) and supports strategic investments in education, environmental programs and poverty solutions in communities served by Entergy.



The grants are the first of two award cycles offered annually by the foundation. Applications for the next cycle of the grant program should be submitted by August 1.

Grants awarded this cycle include: * $460,000 for New Schools for Baton Rouge's Excellence Fund to help launch five new schools in 2013/2014.


* $155,000 for Teach For America-Greater New Orleans to recruit, train and support 400 TFA corps members in Orleans Parish classrooms impacting the lives of 24,000 students.

* $112,500 for KIPP New Orleans Schools to support nine schools comprising New Orleans' highest performing open enrollment public school system.

* $100,000 for Jazz at Lincoln Center educational programs that help audiences of all ages learn about jazz's distinct American heritage, its great works and musicians, and its relationship to other artistic disciplines.

"Company owners see stronger revenues from communities with healthy economic and industrial growth. Stronger communities also support quality of life for Entergy customers and employees living and working in the region." The Entergy Charitable Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization, provides one of several grant programs Entergy offers to communities served. In 2013 Entergy, the Entergy Charitable Foundation and its subsidiaries awarded grants totaling more than $15 million in charitable donations to nonprofits in communities served by Entergy. Entergy employees also logged more than 100,000 hours of volunteer service.
