Comporium adding residential Zipstream service [The Herald (Rock Hill, S.C.) :: ]

(Herald (Rock Hill, SC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 30--Comporium's Zipstream gigabit Internet service will be expanded to 125 neighborhoods in York and Lancaster counties that already are connected with fiber cables.

Comporium hopes to start connecting neighborhoods as early as September and have the project finished by the first quarter of 2015, said Matt Dosch, the company's executive vice president of customer operations and external affairs.

The company will initially focus its efforts on the following neighborhoods: Kimbrell Crossing, Reid, Pointe, Rosemont, Bridgemill, Hanover Crossing, Trinity Ridge, Lakebridge, Avery Lakes and Dominion Bridge.

All of the 125 neighborhoods, representing about 15,500 customers, are currently served by fiber, Dosch said.

Zipstream is almost 85 times faster than Comporium's standard Internet service.

The company initially offered the service to businesses and residents of downtown. Installation of the required transmission equipment has been slowed by other construction in downtown.

Comporium announced last weekend it is expanding Zipstream service to the Waterford Business Park, Airport Industrial Park, Rock Hill Industrial, Riverwalk Business Park, and Southcross Corporate Center in Rock Hill.

Comporium said expanding Zipstream to the business parks should take several months.

Zipstream's cost is $99 per month for residential service and $299 for business connections.
