Local business holds shoe drive [The Lebanon Democrat, Tenn. :: ]

(Lebanon Democrat, The (TN) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 01--Soles 4 Souls received a generous donation from a new local business Thursday. Tire Discounters, which celebrated a ribbon cutting Thursday at its new Mt. Juliet location in Providence MarketPlace, held a shoe drive for the charity for the month of July, yielding more than 18,000 pairs of shoes.

"It's been a wonderful promotion for us," said Regional Manager Rafe Barber. "People really got behind it. We've had so many wonderful stories." The event, dubbed "ReTIRE Your Kicks," allowed customers to donate pairs of shoes to obtain a discount on a tire purchase. According to Barber, customers who donated shoes received a $25 discount per pair donated.

Crissy Niese, chief marketing officer for Tire Discounters, said the promotion was so popular "We had customers removing their shoes in the store to donate." In addition to all of the donated shoes, Tire Discounters presented a $10,000 donation to Soles 4 Souls to help the program distribute all of the donated footwear.

Soles 4 Souls CEO Buddy Teaster said he hoped that this shoe drive was "the beginning of a multi-year partnership with Tire Discounters." Tire Discounters director of operations Forry Hargitt called the event a success, adding "We couldn't be more happy with the welcome to Mt. Juliet. I never thought we'd collect this many shoes." ___ (c)2014 The Lebanon Democrat, Tenn.
