LDRA and Logicircuit Cosponsor National FAA Certification Conference

WIRRAL, United Kingdom & ALPHARETTA, Ga. --(Business Wire)--

LDRA, the leader in DO-178C standards compliance, automated software verification, source code analysis and test tools, and Logicircuit, a leading DO-254/178C services and IP company, today announced their cosponsorship of the National Systems, Software, and Airborne Electronic Hardware Conference. This year's conference, which will be held in Los Angeles, CA (News - Alert) on September 23-25, 2014, brings industry members and regulators together to discuss recent significant changes to policy and practice in aircraft systems, software, and hardware.

Significant Changes in Avionics Policy Demands Discussion Between Regulators and Industry

Over the last few years, avionics regulators overhauled many of the regulatory guidelines to clarify policy and to ensure best practice software and hardware techniques developed in the last decade could be applied to the management and production of safe aircraft systems. Changes in policy and practice have required updates of ARP 4754 to 4754A and of RTCA DO-178B to DO-178C, including multiple Technical Supplements to better guide the production of aircraft systems and software. In addition, the Certification Authorities Software Team (CAST) issued Position Paper 31, "Technical Clarifications Identified for RTCA DO-254 / EUROCAE ED-80," which identifies technical clarifications, including errors, omissions, obsolescence, and other required details that are needed for RTCA document DO-254 and EUROCAE document ED-80.

The National Systems, Software, and Airborne Electronics Hardware Conference promotes in-depth discussion of such policy changes and the implications and application to their specific processes. As active committee and industry group members for DO-178C and DO-254, respectively, LDRA and Logicircuit are fully aware of how far-reaching these updates are. Their sponsorship seeks to extend industry understanding of the changes and to ensure industry and regulators have an opportunity to apply these new guidelines into compliance initiatives.

Conference Offers In-Depth Technical Sessions

Over the last 40 years, LDRA has earned an unmatched pedigree in aerospace, avionics and defense applications with the LDRA tool suite supporting hundreds of the most successful DO-178 Level A certifications. At the conference, this practical, hands-on experience forms the basis of three in-depth talks by LDRA's certification experts. LDRA Founder and SC-205 Committee Member Mike Hennell and FAA DERs Steve Morton and Todd R. White, who have been delegated full FAA approval authority for systems, software and airborne electronic hardware for all aircraft systems and equipment, including engines will present the talks:

  • Satisfying DO-178C Code Review Objectives Using CERT C and MISRA C
  • Compliance with New DO-178C Guidance Related to Object Code Verification
  • Compliance with New DO-178C Guidance Related to Data and Control Coupling

"LDRA's core strength as a verification tools provider for safety-critical software has been extended to include solutions for systems, software, and hardware, enabling companies with compliance to ARP 4754A, DO-178C, and DO-254," noted Mike Hennell, LDRA Founder and RTCA SC-205 Committee Member. "To help applicants manage certification planning, LDRA has successfully guided and supported applicants through compliance plans and processes, lifecycle documents, process checklists, problem reporting, development, and verification to achieve compliance with regulatory standards. The LDRA tool suite, combined with our newly established certification services, are entirely focused on ensuring certification readiness and dramatically reducing project costs."

Logicircuit, a company focusing exclusively on DO-254 and DO-178C compliance, is driving new solutions in the emerging area of DO-254 compliant commercial off-the-shelf intellectual property (COTS IP), which is a topic of significant interest at this year's conference. Logicircuit, in combination with Patmos Engineering Services and Xilinx (News - Alert), Inc., will be presenting the following technical sessions:

  • Practical Solutions for DO-254 Compliant COTS IP
  • SEE: Mitigation Methods for Modern FPGAs

"Years ago, within our consulting projects, we recognized the issues and needs concerning the use of commercial IP in avionics systems," said Joe Goode, President, Logicircuit. "Several sessions at the conference will highlight the challenges and issues of using COTS IP. We are excited to bring DO-254 compliant IP solutions, including IP in support of mitigating single event effects, to market at a time when the topic is gaining visibility and the policy is being solidified."

"This FAA conference is an essential event for designated engineering representatives (DERs) like myself and other certification authorities and subject matter experts needing to stay current on the latest policy and issues," said Todd R. White, FAA DER and DO-178C Executive Committee Member. "I've worked on projects with LDRA and Logicircuit for years, and know the passion and rigor they bring to the certification process. Both these companies continue to present their industry leadership by sponsoring this event and sharing their unique expertise in applying best practice processes to avionics development."
